Mahir Cagri was one of the first internet-only superstars, when his website became a global in-joke. Full of pictures of Mahir playing ping-pong and relaxing in his speedo’s and pronouncing in broken english such classic sentiments as “I like sex”, “Who is want to come TURKEY I can invitate” and “I KISS YOU!!!!!”, many have commented on the similarities to Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat character.
In fact, its been reported that Cagri will sue Cohen for stealing his personality. However, a little research seems to show that a Borat-type character was pitched to the BBC sometime around 1994, whilst the Ikissyou site didn’t appear until at least 1998.
